Summer's Bounty

This summer has been unusually hot and humid. Humidity is not a favorite but I do love warm weather and all it brings. Grandkids are out of school for the summer so we can get in lots of visits and pool time. The sounds of kids laughing and talking are music to my ears. They are all growing so fast, I hope they keep having a little time for Grammie and Grampie. They are, after all, some of my favorite people.

The garden is loving this weather and we are loving the fresh produce picked right by our back door. Flowers are in full bloom but sadly no apples on our trees this year. We had high winds that took all of the blossoms off. I am assuming that is the reason. Usually, we have enough for me to can apple pie filling as well. Our peach tree has lots of peaches but they are very small and kind of funny-looking so no idea if we will harvest anything there. Plentiful delicious blueberries mean homemade blueberry jam. We are thankful for the bounty.

Delicious steaks, burgers, chicken, fish, and veggies on the grill. My husband is the grillmaster here. We all love his amazing talent. Lots of fresh salads, pasta, and potato salad are enjoyed, and grilled bread, one of my favorites.

Really, what is not to like about summer?

Our local Agricultural Labor Day Weekend Harmony Free Fair is coming right up and there are lots of preparations going on for that. Many volunteers put in a lot of hours to make it happen. Always 4 days of fun that mark the end of summer. Kids play games, and old friends get together to talk and listen to music. And of course, a fair favorite everywhere is doughboys!

My next post will be about canning and saving this harvest from the Summer and Fall.
